Get your website ready for an AI assistant: 10 quick fixes

By the AskAI team · November 1, 2026 · 7 min read

An AI assistant that learns from your website will repeat whatever your website says — including the gaps, the contradictions and the page you forgot to update in 2023. The good news: the fixes that help an assistant are the same fixes that help human visitors and search engines.

Here are ten that take an afternoon, not a redesign.

1. Put your basics on one page

Hours, address, service area, phone and email belong on a contact page in plain text — not only inside an image or a map widget. Assistants (and people on slow phones) read text.

2. Write the FAQ you keep answering by email

List the ten questions you answer most often, and answer each in two or three sentences. Use the visitor’s words as the heading: “Do you work weekends?” beats “Availability”.

3. One topic per page, with a clear title

A page called “Services” that covers six services forces any reader to guess. A page per service, with a title that says what it is, gives the assistant a precise page to link to.

4. Say prices the way you want them quoted

If you publish prices, write them clearly with what is included (“From $120, includes the first follow-up visit”). If you do not publish prices, say how pricing works and how to get a quote. Silence invites guessing.

5. Remove or update old pages

Old promotions, retired services and last year’s schedule are the most common source of wrong answers. Delete them, redirect them, or mark them clearly as past. A good assistant drops pages that disappear; it cannot know a live page is out of date.

6. Use headings properly

Headings are how both people and assistants find the right paragraph. Use real heading tags (H2, H3) for sections, not just bold text.

7. Keep important details out of images

Menus, price lists and schedules saved as images are invisible to anything that reads text. Put the same information in text on the page, even if you keep the image too.

8. Add structured data where it fits

Business details, products, events and listings can be described with structured data (schema.org). Many website builders add it for you. It helps search engines and assistants read details precisely.

9. Check your robots.txt and noindex settings

A careful assistant respects robots.txt and noindex, just like a search engine. Make sure you are not accidentally hiding important pages, and that you are hiding the ones you mean to.

10. Decide what stays private

Staff pages, internal price lists or draft pages that are public but not meant for visitors should be removed or excluded. With AskAI you can exclude a path or mark part of a page with data-rtai-ignore.

The short version: A clear website makes a clear assistant. Fix the basics once and every visitor — human or AI — gets better answers.
